WithIt Awards Scholarships for 2020
WithIt, the women’s leadership development network for the home and furnishings industries, announced that ten scholarships will be awarded this year to young women from schools across the U.S. WithIt received a $30,000 donation from the Heritage Home Group Charitable Trust to fund scholarships and enrichment to students. “WithIt has always been passionate about working with students by offering scholarships and programs like student mentoring day – connecting students to opportunities within our industry,” said WithIt 2020 president Lorri Kelley, Lorri Kelley Advisors. “We are proud to be able to offer 10 scholarships this year. We could not do that without generous contributions from our members, corporate sponsors and this grant from Heritage Home Group Charitable Trust.”WithIt believes that one of the key benefits to students is being able to meet industry women in-person to give them the opportunity to begin building a network. This year in addition to a tuition scholarship, students receive an all-expense paid trip to High Point Market in October. They will also receive a ticket to WithIt’s virtual professional conference. Participation in these events affords students the opportunity to meet and network with women from the industry while building upon skills they can use in their pursuit of a career. Boya Zhang, a furniture design student at Kendall College of Art and Design, will receive the Jena and Stephen Hall scholarship. She is a non-traditional student and mother who moved to the U.S. to pursue her master’s degree in industrial design but made a pivot to furniture design after having her son.Additional 2020 recipients are: Sarah Carter, Colorado State University; Pooja Desai, University of Houston; Stephanie Golden, Marywood University; Mariana Keymolen, University of Houston; Lucy Musselman, Winthrop University; Nestia Nuanez, Colorado State University; Lara Rabinowitz, NC State University; Caitlyn Schlaudecker, NC State University; and Tracey Trickey, Colorado State University. The students received awards in varying amounts.“WithIt’s foundation is built on the education and growth of women in our industry,” says Emily Severson, WithIt’s Scholarship VP. “Every student receiving a scholarship this year embodies the future of WithIt and our industry. We are excited to have such a talented group of young women to receive scholarships. Each student is on a unique journey toward a career in home and furnishings with great potential to positively impact our industry.”Since 1998, WithIt’s scholarship foundation has awarded over $192,000 in tuition scholarships to qualified young women and men in universities across the U.S. who are pursuing majors that impact the home and furnishings industries.About WithIt: WithIt was formed in 1997 for women in the home and furnishings industries in order to support their multi-dimensional career paths.
